There is more than just a passing connection
between the two Tennessee Nobel Peace Prize winners.
In 1989-90 Al Gore, Jr. mentioned in
a speech that Cordell Hull had been a great influence in his life. A
member of the Friends of Cordell Hull was at the event and approached
Senator Gore with the news that Cordell Hull's memorabelia was in dire
need of conservation and asked what could be done. With Senator Gore's
help a museum housing Cordell Hull's world class collection was built
and is now Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park. Senator Al Gore, Sr.
sat on an advisory board for the Friends of Cordell Hull.

Museum Hours - Monday through Sunday

Cordell
Hull was appointed Secretary of State by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933
and served until 1944, longer than any other secretary. He was given the sobriquet
"Father of the United Nations" by Roosevelt. In 1945 he was awarded
the Nobel Prize for Peace for his role in establishing the United Nations.
